... ABSTRACT This field trip examines the results of integrated geologic studies of the 9 August 2020, M w 5.1 earthquake near Sparta, North Carolina, USA. The earthquake generated ~4 km of coseismic surface rupture of the Little River fault and uplifted a surface area of ~11 km 2 . The Little...

...K. R. Ludwig; R. I. Grauch; C. J. Nutt; J. T. Nash; David Frishman; K. R. Simmons Abstract The Ranger and Jabiluka uranium deposits are the largest in the Alligator Rivers uranium field, which contains at least 20 percent of the world's low-cost uranium reserves. Ore occurs in early Proterozoic...

...A. R. Wilde; V. J. Wall Abstract The Nabarlek deposit is an unusually high-grade uranium orebody (1.84% U 3 O 8 , 12,000 metric tons) hosted by amphibolite and semipelitic schist of lower Proterozoic age. It is unusual in the Alligator Rivers uranium field in being hosted by amphibolite...

Outcrop and core locations analyzed in this study. The study area includes most of the Alligator Rivers Uranium Field (ARUF). Due to gentle regional dip and erosion, stratigraphically younger units outcrop to the SE. The Nungbalarri Formation and Gilruth Member are basalt lava flows, whereas the more randomly distributed Oenpelli is a series of dolerite sills and dikes that intruded the Kombolgie Subgroup at ca. 1723 ± 6 Ma (Edgecombe et al. 2002, Hollis et al. 2009). Based on helicopter and field reconnaissance, the Oenpelli outcrops are much more numerous than shown. The age of the Jimbu Microgranite, 1720 ± 7 Ma, is from Rawlings & Page (1999). Geologic map modified from Rawlings (2001).

Fig. 13. Schematic sketch of the alteration emplacement around the major structural discontinuities (fault, brecciated unconformity) in the East Alligator River uranium field. Post-mineralization alteration has not been considered here. (See text for comments and discussion). A. Diagenetic stage. Absence of significant interaction between the basinal brines and the basement rocks. B. Earlier hydrothermal stage. The nature and the spatial distribution of the alteration assemblages is dominated by infiltration of basinal brines in the basement formations (bold arrows). C. Late hydrothermal stage. Chloritization in response to fracturing of the upper part of the basement and expulsion of fluids derived from long interaction between basinal brines (thin arrows) and the minerals from the basement rocks.
