Location The Littleton area, in northwestern New Hampshire (Fig. 1, inset), is easily reached from Canada or southern New England via I-93 and a network of paved and graded roads. Directions to the numbered stops shown on Figure 1 are provided below. The following topographic quadrangle maps would be helpful: St. Johnsbury 15-minute (1:62,500), and the Lower Waterford, Littleton, Woodsville, Lisbon, Newbury, and East Haverill 7 ½ - minute (1:24,000). Site 55'Bronson Hill Sequence Stop 1A. Roadcut in Dead River Formation (OCd) on the eastbound lane of I-93, 1.5 mi (2.4 km) east of interchange 42, and just east of a long roadcut through amphibolite of lower member of Ammonoosuc Volcanics (Oal). Stop IB. Outcrop of Dead River Formation (0Cd) on the south bank of the Ammonoosuc River 0.3 mi (0.5 km) west of the intersection of U.S. 302 and New Hampshire 112. Stop 1C. Stream-washed outcrops of volcanic-bearing member of Perry Mountain Formation (Spv), the Foster Hill fault, Dead River Formation (0Cd), lower member of Ammonoosuc Volcanics (Oal), and Partridge Formation (Op) along Childs Brook, upstream and downstream from the Woodsville Road bridge, which is 0.7 mi (1.1 km) south of the west end of the covered bridge at Bath Village. The Foster Hill fault between OCd and Spv is exposed on the north bank of the brook about 500 ft (150 m) upstream from the bridge (Fig. 1).
