Abstract Lookout Mountain is in Dade and Walker Counties, Georgia, in a relatively rural part of the state. However, it is near interstate access roads and lends itself well to field trips. Six stops, designed to show the major stratigraphic units of the region, are, save for one, on public land readily accessible by automobile. The Mountain cradles Cloudland Canyon State Park, which includes camping facilities. Most of the stops are on the Durham 7½-minute quadrangle; one is on the adjacent Trenton quadrangle, to the west. Figure 1 shows the locality and accessibility of Lookout Mountain.
