Abstract
Motukoreaite occurs in fractures and amygdales in hyaloclastite dredged from the western Mediterranean. It apparently forms as a low-T alteration product during sea-water-basaltic glass interaction. Microprobe chemical analyses and the complete XRD powder pattern of motukoreaite are reported to enable unambiguous identification in future work on submarine alteration of basaltic glasses.
