Abstract

Drilling activity in the oil-producing counties increased during the year due to advances in crude prices and an appreciable lack of gas discoveries. Total wells drilled amounted to 1,142, 666 of which were successful and 476 were dry. No new oil or gas fields of note were found. Extensions to two existing oil fields were the most outstanding discoveries during the year.
