Abstract

During 1956, 183 exploratory tests were drilled in the Panhandle District, surpassing the 1955 total of 161. Sixty of the 1956 tests were successful. Discoveries were predominantly from Pennsylvanian formations and were located for the most part in the Anadarko Basin area. Leasing, geophysical activity, and development drilling showed an increase over 1955. There were 1,409 development wells, as compared with 1,053 in 1955, and 93% were successful.
