Abstract
The paper provides a brief overview of the long history of Geological Committee and Russian Geological Research Institute (VSEGEI) in the development of the Geological Survey and reinforcement of the mineral resource base of Russia. The status of the state geological mapping in the country is highlighted. The issues, challenges, and future prospects for the state geological mapping in Russia are outlined.
