Abstract

Museum specimens labelled kamarezite from localities in the Laurium area, Greece, have been investigated. In the original description by K. Busz in the late 19th century, similarity with brochantite and langite was noted, but kamarezite was established as a new mineral largely on the basis of quantitative chemical analysis which showed certain differences, particularly a higher water content. Optical, physical, crystallographic, and chemical data are here presented to prove that the mineral described by Busz (sample now lost) is brochantite.
