Abstract
Authigenic glauconitic mica, formed by fixation of iron and potassium in clay mineral lattices, occurs in clastic sands and lacustrine dolomites beneath the present playa of Lake Mound, and has been identified by X-ray diffraction, optical data, differential thermal and chemical analysis. This occurrence indicates that glauconitic mica can form from montmorillonitic materials in non-marine environments, and thus glauconitic mica is not an infallible indicator of marine conditions.
