George Francis Mitchell
Littleton bog, Tipperary; an Irish vegetational record
(1965) 1-16

Abstract

A sequence of open-water mud, fen peat, and raised-bog Sphagnum peat forms the Littleton bog near Thurles in south-central Ireland. Ten pollen zones are recognized in the sequence. Development of the bog began in early late glacial time, when herbs were the dominant element of the vegetation, and has continued to the present. The history of changes in the vegetation is outlined.
