Journal of Sedimentary Petrology (March 1964) 34 (1): 91-101

Abstract

Describes primary structures, including streaked-out mud ripples at the base of turbidites and drag thrusts caused by frictional drag from above, in a thin sequence of turbidites intercalated in marine calcareous siltstones and sandstones of the Puriri formation exposed in the coastal zone of the Hukatere peninsula, New Zealand. The turbidity currents were fed by sand eroded from unweathered andesitic rocks and flowed from both east and west into the depositional basin, which was small and shallow.
