Abstract

SHRIMP was used in conjunction with BSE and CL techniques to determine the age of detrital zircons from sandstone in the Middle Run formation in Ohio. Ages ranged from 1030 to 1982 m.y. (84 analyses) with six distinctive modes at 1960, 1630, 1470, 1340, 1150 and 1080 m.y., indicating that most of the zircons were derived from the Grenville orogen. The Middle Run formation is thus judged to be a North American equivalent to the Torridon group of Scotland.
