Abstract

"A study of small shocks occurring near Arequipa has revealed the existence of a vertical fault system on which shocks occur to depths of 300 or more kilometers. Considering its position between the high ranges of the Andes and the trend of the oceanic trench, it is reasonable to expect this type of tectonic faulting, and it may be that location of this fault system will make it possible to understand better the tectonics of the Andes system."
