Abstract

Impact craters play an important role in planetary chronology and geomorphology. Researchers use a cadre of software tools that aid in visual crater identification and crater morphologic analysis. However, many of the existing software tools support only rudimentary visualization and/or limited crater morphologic analysis. To facilitate the use of high-resolution altimetry data in crater visualization and morphologic analysis, we provide mVTK. mVTK is a novel visualization and morphologic analysis software tool that uses raw altimetry data to render high-resolution cartographic projects in real time that are interactive and support precise crater profile measurements.
