Abstract

Controversy regarding the origin of furrows or trails occurring on the surface of the Racetrack Playa in Death Valley National Monument led to the search for evidence of the same phenomenon on other playas. Such evidence was found on Little Bonnie Claire Playa in Nye County, Nevada, first in the form of a few nearly obliterated trails, and later in numerous fresh furrows following a protracted rain and wind storm. The author is of the opinion that the furrows or trails are made in the wet and slippery clay surface of the playa by rocks propelled by the wind.
