Scottish Journal of Geology (February 2009) 45, Part 1: 89-92

Abstract

An unusual specimen in the collections of the Hunterian Museum, labelled as a "ten point star crinoid ossicle", is re-identified as the distal spiniferous canopy of the anal tube of a camerate crinoid. It is referred to the monobathrid Eucalyptocrinites sp. and is close to the type species, Eucalyptocrinites rosaceous Goldfuss (Middle Devonian, Germany). The new specimen is probably Silurian; there are three other British Silurian Eucalyptocrinites. If the locality is correct, it is the first member of this genus from Scotland.
