Abstract
Ultrabasites of the Konder Massif (57 degrees 36'N, 134 degrees 37'E) occupy up to 90% of its exposed area. Their K-Ar isotope ages show a broad scatter. Moreover, the Konder ultrabasites, first of all dunites, might actually be significantly older. Direct data suggest only that the rocks are of post-Archean age. More exactly their age can be estimated from indirect evidence, mainly from paleomagnetic data. Comparison of paleomagnetic and petrographic data for two types of ultrabasites (clinopyroxenites and koswites) helped to refine their paleomagnetic characteristics. The obtained paleopole coordinates point to a Late Riphean age of the clinopyroxenites and an Early Cretaceous age of the koswites.
