Abstract
The solvus of the NaAlSi (sub 3) O (sub 8) -BaAl (sub 2) Si (sub 2) O (sub 8) series near the albite end-member has been determined by exchange reactions between albite and a BaCl (sub 2) solution. The solvus extends between Ab (sub 98) Cn (sub 2) and Ab (sub 48) Cn (sub 52) at 450 degrees C 1 kbar, Ab (sub 97) Cn (sub 3) and Ab (sub 60) Cn (sub 40) at 600 degrees C, 1.5 kbar and Ab (sub 97) Cn (sub 3) and Ab (sub 82) Cn (sub 18) at 750 degrees C, 2 kbar. The alkali feldspar and albite-celsian solvi are used to estimate the range of unmixing in the ternary system.
