Indonesian archipelago; a geophysical study
Bulletin of the Geological Society of America (1954) 65 (2): 143-164

Abstract

Belts of strong negative gravity anomalies in the Indonesian archipelago coincide with areas of extensive folding and overthrusting, which are considered to have been caused by lateral compression and downbuckling of the earth's crust. Forces producing lateral compression are attributed to the action of subcrustal convection currents.
