American Mineralogist (1954) 39 (11-12): 1018-1020

Abstract

An examination of a specimen of purple-colored needles labeled ianthinite from Katanga, Belgian Congo, indicates that it is most likely an alteration product of ianthinite. Chemical, optical, and x-ray data are given. A formula of UO (sub 3) .2H (sub 2) O is obtained; that of ianthinite has been reported as 2UO (sub 2) .7H (sub 2) O.
