Abstract
Concludes that the earthquake of May 1950 whose epicenter was in the western end of the Cuzco basin, Peru, was probably of tectonic origin. No evidence of recent movement along known faults in the area was found, but extensive fissuring which developed in unconsolidated sediments on the south side of the basin may be related to an active bedrock fault.
