Event or catastrophe in the biogeosciences

Evenement ou catastrophe dans les biogeosciences
Bulletin de la Societe Geologique de France (March 2005) 176 (2): 215-219

Abstract

Catastrophism is back again into the biogeosciences since the recent hypotheses regarding the mass extinctions but its use has led to some immoderate language. So it would be better to use, according to H. Tintant, the word event. Catastrophe and catastrophism have an anthropocentric echo which doesn't fit in with the scientific vocabulary.
