Abstract
Magnetometric studies of sulphides and sulphosalt minerals were carried out by e.p.r. and a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). Synthetic analogues were used as reference materials for the interpretation of the spectra of sphalerite derivative structures such as stannite and tetrahedrite. This allowed the establishment of the different nature of the 'free' electrons delocalized with respect to the usual unpaired electrons of Cu(II). Preliminary studies on the ZnS-archetype doped with trace elements were useful in refining the site symmetries of cations in the structure.
