The chemical composition and crystal structure of non-metamict Fe-rich chevikinite-(Ce) from an aegirine alkali granite, Mianning, Sichuan Province, China, was investigated. EPMA showed FeO(tot) ranges from 10.97 to 11.59 wt.% and Ce (sub 2) O (sub 3) from 23 to 25%. There are deficient A- and (B + C)-type cations in the formula. The structure was refined in space group C2/m to R 2.41%; a 13.456, b 5.728, c 11.083 Aa, beta 100.60 degrees , V 839.7 Aa (super 3) , Z = 2. The structure consists of two kinds of sheets: one a sheet of Si (sub 2) O (sub 7) groups and B octahedra, and the other a sheet of C octahedra, both the ab plane. These two kinds of sheets alternate along the c axis and form a 3D framework. The REE ions lie between the disilicate groups and the sheets of octahedra to form (8 + 3)-coordinated A1 polyhedra and 10-coordinated A2 polyhedra. The Fe and Ti are partially ordered among the octahedral sites of B, C1, C2A and C2B. Charge distribution analysis confirms Fe (super 3+) /Sigma Fe = 0.61 and a mixture of Fe (super 2+) and Fe (super 3+) in the B site.
