Abstract

Pseudosinhalite, Mg (sub 2) Al (sub 3) O[BO (sub 4) ] (sub 2) (OH), can, on chemical grounds, be regarded as a member of a polysomatic series consisting of two modules of the forsterite analogue sinhalite, MgAl[BO (sub 4) ], and one module of AlO(OH). However, in contrast to the isostructural polysomatic humite series with five members including forsterite, experiments suggest that there are no synthetic MgAl-analogues for the members norbergite, humite, and clinohumite.
