Abstract

The substitution of (super [4]) B for (super [4]) Si is shown to occur in an olenite from Stoffhutte. EPMA and SIMS data, in combination with structural refinement, gave the optimized formula (super Y) (Na (sub 0.400) Ca (sub 0.294) [] (sub 0.306) ) (super Z) (Al (sub 2.424) Li (sub 0.357) [] (sub 0.219) )(Al (sub 5.916) [] (sub 0.084) ) B (sub 3.00) (Si (sub 4.854) B (sub 1.062) Al (sub 0.084) )O (sub 27) [F (sub 0.06) (OH) (sub 3.31) O (sub 0.63) ]. The olenite has a 15.731, c 7.0638 Aa, space group R3m. The structure was refined to R 0.014; < T-O> = 1.609 Aa, reflecting substitution of the smaller B ion for Si. Suggestions as to the distribution pattern of (super [4]) B can be made on the basis of X-site occupancy.
