Submarine geology of Bikini atoll
Bulletin of the Geological Society of America (1948) 59 (9): 855-860

The outer slopes around Bikini atoll rise in a long gradually steepening curve from a depth of about 2500 fathoms. At the top of the slope the reef is bordered by a narrow 15-fathom terrace on the windward side, and by a steep cliff extending to 35 fathoms on the leeward side. The lagoon is bordered by a 12-fathom terrace. The floor of the lagoon is covered mainly by algal debris in the middle and by algal and foraminiferal sand on the shallow edges.
