Abstract
The uplift now taking place in Fennoscandia and North America is a consequence of isostatic readjustment disturbed by the postglacial melting of the ice. The time required for readjustment has been increasing. The plastic flow of the interior of the earth and relation to the uplift are investigated. The importance of small causes acting during long periods is pointed out.
