Abstract

Calculated XRD powder patterns for several compositions in the Alm-Py-Gro ternary system have been used to provide two determination diagrams for garnets in this range. One diagram is based on the changes in calculated theta (sub 332) (for Cu (sub K<F128MV>a<F255>1) ) and the I (sub 332) /I (sub 420) intensity ratio, while the other is based on the changes in calculated theta (sub 444) and of the I (sub 642) /I (sub 332) intensity ratio. Six samples of natural garnets with compositions determined by EPMA were used to check the reliability of the method.
