Abstract

A detailed TEM study of deformation lamellae in quartz from arenitic samples of Rooiberg group strata in the Stavoren fragment of the Bushveld complex has not revealed any evidence of shock metamorphic deformation; the observed deformation is likely to be of tectonic origin. An origin for the Bushveld complex by impact has not been supported by any unambiguous findings of impact-diagnostic shock metamorphic deformation effects.
