Abstract

In this granulite-facies area, the enderbitic veins rather than the mafic intrusions carry early CO (sub 2) inclusions. Fluid inclusion data show that a highly saline brine was mobilized from the surrounding metapelites during the final stage of crystallization of the early Sveconorwegian gabbro intrusions at low to medium crustal level. The latter granulite-facies metamorphism at substantially higher P was associated with the intrusion of enderbitic veins which introduced a 4-5 mm wide dehydration zone between the enderbite and the surrounding hydrous mafic granulites at Tromphi y. Fluid inclusion textures show that CO (sub 2) was the dominant free fluid phase and was responsible for the dehydration; brine and N (sub 2) (from metapelites) acted as immiscible phases during entrapment of the fluids. The fluid phase was water-dominated prior to the Sveconorwegian granulite-facies metamorphism, but CO (sub 2) was transported into the area by an intermediate magma during high-grade conditions.
