Abstract

A quantification technique has been developed by combining diffractometric and chemical data and represents a considerable improvement on the classic method based on XRD. The required data are: intensity ratios between certain diffraction peaks of calcite-dolomite and sepiolite-palygorskite-smectites, and the CaO, MgO, K (sub 2) O, Al (sub 2) O (sub 3) and SiO (sub 2) contents. The validity of the method was tested by analysis of artificial mixtures of pure phases of the minerals found in such clay-rich deposits.
