Abstract

A tonalitic orthogneiss, retrogressed from granulite to amphibolite facies, is interpreted from new U-Pb results as having crystallized at 2832 + or - 3 m.y.; zircon overgrowths, dated at 2769 + or - 5 m.y., are interpreted as metamorphic in origin, whereas metamorphic monazite crystallized at 2692 + or - 2 m.y. A foliated tonalite crystallized at 2802 + or - 2 m.y.; titanite in this sample records deformation at 1745 + or - 4 m.y. Two foliated granites crystallized at 2587 + or - 3 and 2564 + or - 2 m.y., synchronous with late magmatic events recognized in the S Nain craton. An Avayalik mafic dyke was emplaced at 1834 (super +7) (sub -3 ) m.y. and subsequently metamorphosed at 1740 (super +8) (sub -4 ) m.y.
