Abstract

Calculated P-T conditions for a slice of intermediate to acid granulite associated with spinel lherzolite within amphibolite-facies rocks in this NE Bavarian massif are 1.8 GPa and > or = 1100 during their evolution. Intermediate granulites contain clinopyroxene (Jd (sub 20) ) with oriented, lath-shaped exsolutions of quartz. The latter are interpreted as having exsolved from an earlier clinopyroxene formed at approximately 2.5 GPa and >><$I> 1200 degrees C. These high-P granulites were formed in the same P range as the eclogites of the Munchberg Massif, but at significantly higher T. The associated spinel lherzolite probably acted as a heat source.
