Abstract

A new study on the paratype of dinite shows it to be a distinct mineral species with formula C (sub 20) H (sub 36) . It is orthorhombic, space group P2 (sub 1) 2 (sub 1) 2 (sub 1) , with a 12.356, b 12.762,c 11.427 Angstrom ; strongest XRD powder lines 5.53(vs), 5.06(vs), 8.92(ms), 8.32(ms), 7.00(s) Angstrom . The structure has been refined to R 0.068; the NMR and IR spectra are presented. Dinite is an alicyclic saturated hydrocarbon with three condensed cycles in the formula unit; m.w. 276.
