Abstract
X-ray and optical study of the rediscovered sample of portite studied by D'Achiardi (1873), a fragment of the holotype, demonstrates that portite is identical to natrolite; the name portite is formally discredited. An XRD pattern of 'schneiderite' shows it to closely match that oflaumontite (the early report of it containing Mg is due to the presence of impurities).
