Abstract

The effect of Al-rich titanite (X (sub Al) = 0.27-0.31) on formulation of mass transfer during biotite-chlorite and amphibole(pargasite)-chlorite reactions has been evaluated. The amount of Al-titanite in the chloritization reaction cannot be derived from the number of Ti atoms in 1 mole of biotite (Ti (sub Bi) ) or amphibole (Ti (sub Amph) ) but is equal to Ti (sub Bi(Amph)) /Ti (sub Tit) , where Ti (sub Tit) = 1-Al (sub Tit) and Ti (sub Bi) and Ti (sub Amph) are atoms of Ti and Al pfu titanite. The assumption of ideal stoichiometry can lead to incorrect estimates of the amount of both titanite and chlorite.
