Abstract

Unit-cell parameters for Mg-chlorites on this join, within the com- positional range (Mg (sub 5) Al)(Si (sub 3) Al)O (sub 10) (OH) (sub 8) - (Mg (sub 4.6) Al (sub 1.4) )(Si (sub 2.6) Al (sub 1.4) )- O (sub 10) (OH) (sub 8) , are presented. The compositional dependences are: a(Angstrom) = 5.3425(6)-0.0180(5)X, b(Angstrom) = 9.2603(43)- 0.0340(36)X, c(Angstrom) = 14.604(30)-0.198(24)X, beta degrees = 96.966(58) + 0.127(48)X, where X is the extent of Tschermak substitution, defined by Mg (sub 6) Si (sub 4) O (sub 10) (OH) (sub 8) + XMg (sub -1) Si (sub -1) Al (sub 2) . Molar volume data, fitted to an ideal solid solution model, can be expressed as V (cm (super 3) /mol) = 215.93(+-0.57) - 4.46(+-0.47)X, giving V (super 0) (sub clin) = 211.58 +- 0.10 cm (super 3) /mol, V (super 0) (sub ames) = 210.30 +- 1.66 cm (super 3) /mol.
