Abstract
The adiabatic P dependences of the nine independent elastic moduli of orthopyroxene have been measured by ultrasonic interferometry over a 3 GPa range of hydrostatic P at room T. The calculated zero- P bulk (K (sub o) ) and shear (G (sub o) ) moduli of an ideal isotropic homogeneous polycrystal of orthopyroxene of this composition over the 0-3 GPa range are: K (sub o) 109.4 +- 0.5 GPa, K (super ') (sub o) 10.8 +- 0.8, K (super h) (sub o) -1.6 +- 0.2 GPa, G (sub o) 75.2 +- 0.4 GPa, G (super ') (sub o) 2.06 +- 0.07 and G (super '') (sub o) -0.12 +- 0.00 GPa.
