Abstract

Equilibrium curves have been obtained for the decomposition of CoCO (sub 3) and NiCO (sub 3) to their respective oxides + CO (sub 2) in the P range 300-2000 bar and T < 700 degrees C under XCO (sub 2) approx 0.5. Reversed phase equilibrium runs were performed at selected P-T values and the thermodynamic data for enthalpies of formation and standard free energies of formation are: CoCO (sub 3) DELTA H degrees f = -732.211 +- 3.10, DELTA G degrees f = - 657.266 +- 3.10 kJ/mol; NiCO (sub 3) DELTA H degrees f = -703.380 +- 1.24, DELTA G degrees f = -628.359 +- 1.24 kJ/mol.
