Abstract

Although crystals of stilbite from Poona, India, are chemically homogeneous, the 001 growth sector is orthorhombic when investigated by XRD, whereas the 101 sector is monoclinic. The 001 sector of stilbite is isomorphous with stellerite; its orthorhombic symmetry is explained by the rotation of Si tetrahedra during stilbite crystal growth. The 001 sector of stilbite has a 13.616, b 18.238, c 17.835 Angstrom ; space group Fmmm; Z = 2 [Na (sub 0.75) (Ca (sub 3.78) Mg (sub 0.42) )(Al (sub 9.38) Si (sub 26.62) )O (sub 72) bullet32.50 H (sub 2) O].
