Abstract

Testing for the continuity of permeability barriers between wells in oil and gas fields is important for estimating reserves and planning production procedures. In thinly layered sedimentary reservoirs, conventional seismic techniques--such as reflection profiles, VSPs, and crosshole tomography--may not be wholly successful in determining continuity. In this paper, we suggest that seismic guided waves propagating parallel to the layering may be important for testing continuity between wells.
