The genesis of zeolites
European Journal of Mineralogy (August 1989) 1 (4): 479-487

The equilibrium relations of zeolites and the various possibilities of synthesizing zeolites using chemicals, minerals and natural glasses are reviewed to give a general picture of the conditions of crystallization of these minerals. A general description and interpretation of the geological environments where zeolites crystallize in nature is presented, including diagenesis, hydrothermal genesis and the production of zeolites in geodes and vugs of basalts. In the majority of cases analcite in lavas is Na-exchanged leucite.
