Experiments have been conducted to test the rate and stoichiometry of dissolution of experimentally deformed and undeformed sanidine from the Eifel, West Germany, with high and low dislocation densities, respectively. Results show that dislocation density has only a slight effect at 95 degrees C in dil. aqueous solutions at pH approx 3. Preferential incongruent precipitation at surface manifestations of defects leads to differences in the net release of Al between deformed and undeformed samples. Etch pits were developed in a similar manner on both deformed and undeformed samples, indicating that they may be unrelated to dislocations.
