Abstract
The Roque Nublo non-welded Pliocene (5-3.5 m.y.) ignimbrites are characteristic deposits of the second magmatic cycle on Gran Canaria. They are very heterogeneous with 30-50 vol.% lithic fragments, 15-20% mildly vesiculated pumice, 5-10% phenocrysts and 30-40% ash matrix. A melt inclusion study on clinopyroxenes from these ignimbrites indicates that the original melt prior to the ignimbritic eruptions was phonolitic in character. Homogenization on these melt inclusions (without P corrections) gave values of 1050 +- 15 and 1150 +- 20 degrees C.
