Great big boulders I have known

Abstract

Large boulders on alluvial fans are widely dispersed in the American Basin and Range Province. Description and illustration of several such boulders along the western side of the White Mountains, California; explanation for their areal distribution and method of transport. An approach to determination of earthquake frequency is discussed, based upon the proposition that megalith-like blocks and clusters of boulders on a fan represent, indirectly, the effects of energetic seismic events in or near the parent mountain range.--Modified journal abstract.
