Abstract
Unit-cell constants of a strontian piemontite (SrO 4.09%) from St Marcel, Val d'Aosta, Italy, with composition Ca (sub 1.80) Sr (sub 0.20) Al (sub 1.91) Fe (sub 0.33) Mn (sub 0.82) Si (sub 3) O (sub 12) OH were measured at 25 and 800 degrees C by single-crystal XRD (Mo K alpha radiation). The relation between thermal expansion of the lattice and thermal expansion of the coordination polyhedra is accounted for by a correlated tilting of polyhedra at high T.
