Abstract

IR and Raman spectra of lawsonite from the Tiburon Peninsula, California, have been recorded at wavenumbers between 50 and 4000 cm (super -1) . From polarized Raman and IR reflection spectra and mode denumbering, an assignment of the vibrations of the Si (sub 2) O (sub 7) , OH and H (sub 2) O units present in lawsonite is proposed and the results compared with those available for other disilicates (thortveitite, fresnoite, krentolite, bertrandite).
