Abstract

This study was conducted: 1) to verify the incongruent melting of diopside and determine the T at which melting begins, 2) to simulate crystallization experiments at different coolingrates in an attempt to identify and quantify the heat effect resulting from the crystallization of forsterite prior to that of wollastonite and a clinopyroxene solid solution, and 3) to evaluate the precision and accuracy of heat capacity data obtained by the scanning method at high T.
