Abstract

The average structure of a mullite, Al (sub 2) (Al (sub 2+x) Si (sub 2-2x) )O (sub 10-x) with composition x = 0.40, has been determined by refinement of XRD data. Third- and fourth-order tensors are used to describe two oxygen sites, and the occupancies of the two tetrahedral sites by Si and Al are analysed.
